Account Hierarchy Overview

This section explains the hierarchical account structure and integration modes in Interlace's system.

There are two core account typesMaster Merchant and Sub-Merchant — which operate under different integration models such as Gateway and MoR. In addition, some clients integrate via a Distributor layer, which acts as a management and API distribution interface rather than an account type.

1. Distributor

Definition

  • A Distributor is a top-level partner integrating with Interlace's API to facilitate card issuance for their downstream clients (Master Merchants).
  • The Distributor typically does not issue cards directly. Instead, it manages API credentials and oversees integrations for multiple Master Merchants.

Responsibilities

  • Manage API credentials and onboard new master merchants.
  • Monitor transaction and card data across all merchants.

How to register?

Note: The Distributor is not an account type. It represents an additional layer of integration and management above Master Merchants.

2. Master Merchant

Definition

  • Represents the main business entity using Interlace's system. Each master merchant operates its own accounts and wallets, and serves as the core unit for all transactions, card issuance, and fund management.
  • Each master merchant is provisioned with:
    • CryptoConnect Wallet — for on-chain deposits (crypto settlement).
    • Infinity Account — for fiat settlement and fund management.

Master Merchant in Different Contexts

The role of the Master Merchant varies depending on whether a Distributor is involved.

2.1 Direct Integration (No Distributor)

Definition

  • The Master Merchant is the top-level account that directly integrates with Interlace. It is created during onboarding and manages all downstream activities.

Responsibilities

  • In MoR mode: issue cards directly and manage customer balances internally.
  • In Gateway mode: onboard Sub-Merchants.

How to register?

2.2 Distributor Integration

  • When a distributor is involved, the master merchant becomes the distributor’s downstream client.
  • They use the distributor’s API to issue cards and manage their customers, but they typically do not have direct access to Interlace’s dashboard.

Summary

  • Direct model → Master Merchant = top level
  • Distributor model → Master Merchant = second level

3. Sub-Merchant (Gateway Mode Only)

  • Sub-merchants exist only in Gateway mode. They are downstream clients onboarded by a Master Merchant, and can be either individuals or businesses.
  • Each sub-merchant has:
    • CryptoConnect Wallet: For receiving on-chain deposits (crypto settlement).
    • Infinity Account: For receiving funds transferred from various sources including the CryptoConnect Wallet (fiat settlement).

Account Hierarchy Diagrams

The diagrams below illustrate how accounts are structured across different integration models.
