Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) are standardized four-digit codes used by card networks to classify merchants based on the primary type of goods or services they provide. MCCs are assigned by the acquiring bank during merchant onboarding and are used throughout the payment lifecycle to determine how transactions are processed and evaluated.
